XboxStick drift test and calibration guide

Xbox 360 Controller: stick drift test and fix

Xbox 360 pads are still widely used on PC, and at this age almost every stick has some wear. DriftNo is useful here as a decision tool: measure the drift, see whether the reading is stable or noisy, and decide whether the pad is worth a module replacement or retirement.

What to expect with the Xbox 360 Controller

How DriftNo treats this pad for Xbox 360 controller stick drift: what you can test in a browser, what can be written to the controller, and when a repair is the honest answer.

In practice

Diagnostics and Health Score work. Calibration writes are not available for this generation in the browser, so treat the result as a verdict rather than a repair.

Key points

  • Expect genuine potentiometer wear on most surviving units.
  • No browser calibration write path - diagnostics and deadzone preview only.
  • A measured inner deadzone can make a mildly worn pad usable on PC.

Xbox 360 Controller stick drift: common questions

Can I fix Xbox 360 stick drift with software?

Only in the sense of compensating for it. You can measure the drift and apply a deadzone that covers it, which helps mild cases on PC. Worn potentiometers themselves need replacing.

Why does my 360 pad score so low even though it feels fine?

The score reflects measured resting drift and circularity, which are often worse than they feel in a game that already applies its own deadzone. Look at the component breakdown to see which stick and which metric is pulling it down.

Why is calibration limited in the browser on this pad?

Windows does not expose the same calibration write path for Xbox-protocol controllers that PlayStation pads allow over WebHID. Testing, Health Score and deadzone preview work normally; deeper calibration is what DriftNo on Steam is being built for.

How do I know whether to calibrate or replace the stick?

Run the scan first. Stable readings with an off-centre rest point point to calibration. Noisy, inconsistent readings, or drift that returns shortly after a fix, point to a worn module - replace it, then calibrate the new one.

Same platform family or common upgrade path from the Xbox 360 Controller.
