Calibrate a PS5 controller without a console menu

The PlayStation 5 console does not provide a stick calibration menu for standard DualSense controllers. While publisher guides advise compressed air or warranty replacement, the DualSense hardware accepts calibration writes over USB using WebHID. Here is why console menus are missing and how to calibrate.

The console menu myth: DualSense vs DualSense Edge

Major tech publications frequently publish guides titled "How to calibrate your PS5 controller," only to inform readers that no calibration menu exists on the PS5. This causes widespread confusion.

The PS5 console includes stick sensitivity and deadzone profile menus exclusively for the premium DualSense Edge. Standard DualSense controllers have no calibration options in the PlayStation 5 operating system settings.

However, the standard DualSense hardware does support calibration. Sony factory diagnostic routines use USB feature reports to calibrate sticks during manufacturing. DriftNo brings those exact feature report writes to your desktop browser.

How to calibrate standard DualSense sticks

Calibrate your standard DualSense in three minutes using any desktop computer.

  1. 1

Connect your DualSense to a computer via USB

Open Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on Windows, macOS, or Linux. Plug the controller in with a USB-C data cable.

  2. 2

    Measure resting drift in DriftNo

Click Connect and run the health scan with your hands off the sticks. Review the resting drift percentage and severity rating.

  3. 3

Run Quick Fix to write neutral centre

Quick Fix transmits proprietary Sony feature reports to reset the neutral baseline in the controller hardware flash.

  4. 4

    Complete range circularity sweeps

Rotate the sticks in full circles to calibrate outer boundaries.

  5. 5

    Plug back into your PS5

Return to your console and play. The hardware now outputs balanced, drift-free stick coordinates.

Calibration writes over USB are available for PlayStation controllers. Xbox and Nintendo pads use software preview.

FAQ

Why did Sony not include a calibration menu on the PS5?

Sony reserves custom deadzone and curve profile menus on the PS5 for the DualSense Edge. Standard DualSense controllers rely on factory hardware calibration.

Does calibrating standard DualSense void my Sony warranty?

No. WebHID calibration adjusts sensor offset values in NVS storage without opening the controller housing or altering encrypted firmware.

Does DriftNo fix stick drift permanently?

It depends on the cause. If the stick rests off-centre but is otherwise stable, calibration can correct it and the correction holds. If the potentiometer is worn (scratchy, jumpy, drift that comes back within minutes) no software can repair that. DriftNo tells you which case you are in instead of guessing.

Is DriftNo free?

Yes for the full fix path. Health scan, Controller Health Score, Quick Fix, Before / After, and the gamepad tester are free. So is the whole Advanced bench: deadzone sliders, trigger calibration, linearity wizard, device tests, and Repair check. So is PlayStation USB transfer to console. Premium (£14.99 once) adds named profiles, health history, unlimited Auto Optimise, custom curves, per-axis sensitivity, and session PDF export in this browser.
