Does PC controller calibration work on PS5?
Yes, if the calibration is written directly to the controller on-board non-volatile storage (NVS). When DriftNo writes centre and range offsets to a DualSense or DualShock 4 over USB, the correction is saved inside the controller hardware and persists when plugged into a PlayStation 5 or PS4 console.
Hardware memory writes vs PC software deadzones
Many gamers believe that calibrating a controller on a PC cannot help on a console. This misunderstanding stems from third-party PC software like Steam Input or reWASD, which apply software deadzones on the computer without touching the controller hardware.
When you disconnect a controller from Steam, those computer-side corrections disappear. However, Sony DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers contain on-board non-volatile storage (NVS).
DriftNo sends proprietary WebHID feature reports that unlock NVS memory, write corrected coordinate offsets directly to the hardware, and lock the storage. The controller itself now outputs corrected values, regardless of whether it is connected to a PC, PS5, PS4, or iPad.
Where controller fixes actually live
| Fix approach | Where data is saved | Persists on PS5 console? |
|---|---|---|
| DriftNo USB Quick Fix (Centre & Range) | Controller on-board NVS flash memory | Yes: transfers with the controller |
| In-game deadzone setting (Fortnite, Apex) | Game profile saved on PS5 / PC | Yes, but only inside that specific game |
| Steam Input deadzone / response curve | Steam client software on PC | No: disappears when unplugged from PC |
| Windows joy.cpl calibration | Windows registry on specific PC | No: does not alter controller hardware |
| DualSense Edge PS5 settings menu | Console profile (saved on console / Edge) | Yes, for DualSense Edge only |
How to calibrate on PC for console play
Follow this three-step sequence to transfer corrections to your console.
- 1
Plug DualSense into PC with a USB cable
Open DriftNo in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer.
- 2
Run Quick Fix and save calibration
Follow the guided centre and range steps. Allow DriftNo to complete the NVS flash write.
- 3
Unplug and connect to your PlayStation console
Connect the controller to your PS5 or PS4. Your controller will immediately operate with the corrected centre point and outer bounds.

FAQ
Do I need to leave my PC on while playing on PS5?
No. Once the calibration values are written to the controller NVS flash, the PC is no longer needed. The controller retains the calibration permanently.
Does this work for Xbox controllers connected to an Xbox console?
No. Microsoft does not expose hardware NVS write endpoints over WebHID for Xbox controllers. To calibrate Xbox controllers, use the official Xbox Accessories app on PC or Xbox console.
Does DriftNo fix stick drift permanently?
It depends on the cause. If the stick rests off-centre but is otherwise stable, calibration can correct it and the correction holds. If the potentiometer is worn (scratchy, jumpy, drift that comes back within minutes) no software can repair that. DriftNo tells you which case you are in instead of guessing.
Is DriftNo free?
Yes for the full fix path. Health scan, Controller Health Score, Quick Fix, Before / After, and the gamepad tester are free. So is the whole Advanced bench: deadzone sliders, trigger calibration, linearity wizard, device tests, and Repair check. So is PlayStation USB transfer to console. Premium (£14.99 once) adds named profiles, health history, unlimited Auto Optimise, custom curves, per-axis sensitivity, and session PDF export in this browser.
