How much does it cost to fix stick drift?
A professional stick-module replacement on a standard DualSense or Xbox pad is usually in the £30-£65 / $35-$65 range. DIY modules are much cheaper if you can solder. A new first-party pad is often £70 / $70. Premium pads (DualSense Edge, Xbox Elite) flip that maths: repair is almost always cheaper than replacement.
Typical 2026 ranges
Shop quotes vary by city and whether they fit stock pots or Hall modules. Treat these as decision bands, not a price list.
| Path | Typical cost | When it is the right call |
|---|---|---|
| Free scan + calibration | £0 | Steady centre offset, no jumpy rest reading. |
| Cleaning / contact cleaner | £0-£15 | Sudden drift that might be dirt, not wear. |
| DIY stock module | £8-£25 parts | You can open the pad; you accept the same wear later. |
| DIY Hall / TMR module | £10-£30 parts | Same skill as a stock swap; wear path is gone. |
| Local shop, one or both sticks | £30-£65 / $35-$65 | No soldering, standard DualSense or Xbox pad. |
| New first-party controller | about £70 / $70 | Pad is old, has other faults, or shop quote exceeds ~£55. |
| Edge / Elite module or shop | Parts + labour, still << new pad | Premium controllers. Repair wins on cost. |

Pay for the diagnosis first
A lot of “repair” spend is wasted calibration on worn pots, or a new controller when one stick was the whole problem. A free scan tells you which stick, whether the signal is stable, and whether software is even in the running.
If the rest reading is steady and merely off-centre, you do not owe a shop yet. If it is noisy, you are shopping for a module or a replacement, not another calibration.
After you pay for parts
Budget a calibration step. Hall and TMR installs that skip it come back as “still drifting”. On DualSense and DualShock 4 that write is free in the browser over USB.

FAQ
How do I know whether to calibrate or replace the stick?
Run the scan first. Stable readings with an off-centre rest point point to calibration. Noisy, inconsistent readings, or drift that returns shortly after a fix, point to a worn module - replace it, then calibrate the new one.
Is DriftNo free?
Yes for the full fix path. Health scan, Controller Health Score, Quick Fix, Before / After, and the gamepad tester are free. So is the whole Advanced bench: deadzone sliders, trigger calibration, linearity wizard, device tests, and Repair check. So is PlayStation USB transfer to console. Premium (£14.99 once) adds named profiles, health history, unlimited Auto Optimise, custom curves, per-axis sensitivity, and session PDF export in this browser.
I fitted Hall effect sticks. Do I still need to calibrate?
Yes, and it matters more than people expect. New modules rarely land on the exact centre and range the controller expects, so a freshly repaired pad can still read off-centre until it is calibrated. Run a scan, calibrate centre and range, then re-test to confirm the repair.
Does DriftNo fix stick drift permanently?
It depends on the cause. If the stick rests off-centre but is otherwise stable, calibration can correct it and the correction holds. If the potentiometer is worn (scratchy, jumpy, drift that comes back within minutes) no software can repair that. DriftNo tells you which case you are in instead of guessing.
How do I test stick drift online?
Open DriftNo on a computer, connect the controller, take your hands off the sticks for about five seconds, then follow the short prompts. You get a resting drift reading, a circularity measurement and a 0-100 Controller Health Score.

Two minutes in the Lab is cheaper than the wrong repair.
